MUGWORT (Artemisia vulgaris)
Properties: Bitter tonic, stimulant, nervine tonic, emmenagogue, diuretic & repellant.
Traditional uses: Digestive stimulant. Used for stomach & intestinal conditions such as colic, diarrhea, cramps, weak digestion, persisting vomiting & worms. Treat dyspepsia & lack of apatite. Mild nervine action that is calming to the nerves & may help ease depression and tension. It is used for anxiety, restlessness, irritability, sleep problems as well as fatigue. Even though it is calming to the nerves, it act as a stimulant that regulate healthy energy levels. Also has an effect to normalize menstrual flow. Expel threadworm and roundworm. Treat dyspepsia and lack of appetite.
Topically: It is used for itching caused by scars or burns.
Culinary: Mugwort powder is used as an aromatic herb added to soups, stews or stuffing for meet dishes to improve digestion.
Directions: (Infusion) Pour 1 cup of boiled water over 1 tsp of herb. Cover the container when steeping to ensure the volatile oils is not lost. Steep for 10-15 min, drink 3 times per day.
